He won five out of six attempted tackles, made four clearances, recorded five recoveries and completed two interceptions.

The numbers earned him a deserved Premier League Man of the Match accolade ahead of Tim Iroegbunam, who also had a good game.

Similarly, Hull City fans were impressed by his performance and voted him the club's Man of the Match ahead of Oli McBurnie, Tim Iroegbunam and Lewis Coyle.

A total of 43.6% of fan votes was enough to make him the latest recipient of the club's Player of the Match award. He will hope to continue this form for club and country.

This season so far has been a memorable one for Ajayi who scored the Tigers' first Premier League goal in nine years in their 2–0 opening-day win over Manchester United on August 22, 2026.

Meanwhile, Ajayi's teammate Tim Iroegbunam has reportedly emerged as one of Eric Chelle’s targets. The Birmingham-born midfielder, who has Nigerian parents, joined Hull from Everton on a five-year deal in September 2026.

The Super Eagles head coach has taken an interest in the England-born defensive midfielder and hopes to convince him soon. He would possibly count on Ajayi to put in a word and convince his teammate to choose the three-time African champions.

Having played six games for England U20, the 23-year-old midfielder will need an official switch of nationality before representing Nigeria.
