Esther Okoronkwo: The heroine of WAFCON24 has carried her exceptional form from Continental Glory to Club Conquest. From delivering 2 Goals and 7Assists at WAFCON to 8 Goals and 6 Assists to help her club, AFC Toronto become the first ever Northern Super League winners, Esther, nicknamed “Idan” for her football exploits has no doubt taken the mantle from Asisat. The Fans Player of WAFCON Tournament is one of the most anticipated players Nigerians will be excited to see in the game against Benin Republic.
Edna Imade: The second highest goal scorer in the Liga F last season has started on a goal-scoring note for her new club Real Sociedad where she is on loan from Bayern Munich. Edna is another spectacular finisher who is sharp in front of goal and wins her duels effortlessly enroute the net. Her clinical finishing is fascinating to watch and will form a terrific combo with Okoronkwo. Imade’s pair with Omewa or a lone striker right after Okoronkwo in perking order is also not out of order.
Joy Omewa : My friend had to ask m e “What is Joy Omewa’s offence?” when she was omitted from the WAFCON list. 22 goals in 24 games for her Danish Club and the MVP of the league last season being left out in the cold for about 5 players she would convenient bench? If unfair was the name of a Federation, it will surely be NFF! Well, Joy has returned with a banger this season, already scoring 8 Goals and 1 Assist this season. An added advantage is her Champions League experience and will do well finishing, feeding off from Esther’s “Assistance”. As a lone striker, I will put her as third choice right behind Imade
Gift Monday: One player showed her workings clearly last season, took the form into NWSL the new season and was very consistent, yet got her name swapped for a college rookie who has never kicked professional football at the last minute.☹ This atrocious display by NFF did not dampen her spirit as she rose above all that to make NWSL history last weekend and still dedicated the hat-trick to Nigeria’s Independence. Gift is an extraordinary player who aside from being the points woman can operate effectively from either flank, ensuring we never run of lethal attacking options.
Omorinsola Babajijde: It is still a mystery how such a fantastic left winger / forward got confined to the bench right after a brilliant opener at WAFCON24. Rinsola showed the stuff she was made of by helping to stabilize a collapsed midfield, offering valuable support to her ‘traumatized’ teammate, Ashleigh Plumtre on the left side of the pitch. This eventually led to the Super Falcons overturning a 2-0 deficit to make history as one of the biggest comebacks in Female Football. Playing in the Champions League this season is no doubt an added advantage to the fleet footed forward who remains an integral part of Super Falcons.
Uchenna Kanu: Sidelined due to the injury she just recuperated from, Uchenna Kanu’s style of play and mode of delivery puts her in a pole position as one of our reliable forwards. That rare ability to bring something out of nothing coupled with her smooth, sleeky runs makes her a dynamic striker who has delivered at the most daunting and crucial matches. She could also be the joker as an unpredictably amazing player.
Asisat Oshoala: Agba Baller has obviously rediscovered form since moving from the “consistent bench role” at BayFC to the Saudi Women’s Premier League. 4 Goals and 1 Assist in her last 4 Games has now got everyone switching their TVs to the PersianGulf to catch the “wonderment” Agba Baller is making out of the League. This Legend is a Leader to the players who no doubt look forward to becoming like her sometimes soon.
